辛 Yin Metal

辛 (Yin Metal) is the eighth Heavenly Stem. Classical commentary describes it as 珠玉之金 — pearl-and-jade metal, the refined jewel. Where Yang Metal is the working axe, Yin Metal is what the axe was made to mine.

If your Day Master is 辛, the soul gesture is refined discernment. You can tell which thing is worth keeping in a room of similar things. You hold an inner standard not many people see and even fewer share. The shadow is contempt: rolling your eyes at the unrefined, withdrawing rather than teaching.

Classical 滴天髓 says of 辛: 辛金软弱，温润而清 — 'Yin Metal is soft and gentle, warm and clear.' The emphasis on softness corrects the assumption that metal must be hard to be metal.
