甲 Yang Wood

甲 (Yang Wood) is the first Heavenly Stem in BaZi. Classical 子平 commentary describes it as 参天之木 — the tree that reaches into the sky. Where Yin Wood (乙) is the climbing vine that finds support, Yang Wood is the structural tree that grows up and out, offering shade and direction to whatever lives near it.

If your Day Master is 甲, the soul gesture you came to make is upright leadership. Not loudness — uprightness. People around you tend to use you as a reference point even when you didn't ask for that role. The shadow is rigidity: a tree that refuses to bend in the wind of feedback eventually breaks.

Classical text 滴天髓 says of 甲: 甲木参天，脱胎要火 — 'Yang Wood reaches the sky; to be born complete it needs Fire.' Fire here is expression, articulation, the warming of inner conviction into something the world can recognize. Without Fire, Yang Wood is a giant in a closet. With too much Fire, it burns itself out.
